Discoursi is a game made in Processing by Justin Livi and Sam Robinson in Experimental Games. The game is for a custom table-top arcade cabinet the two created.

In the game there are four levels, each a different color with a unique type of enemy, representing a different emotion. Red, for anger, purple for love or affection, green for envy, and yellow for fear. Players collaboratively control the game’s avatar in a quest to
grow larger and defeat the game’s enemies.

surfaceTouchEvent is an interactive sound installation by Tyler Tamburo that uses a tablet to control four acoustic string instruments. When the viewer interacts with the tablet by moving their finger across the surface, the action is translated into data and sent over a wireless network to a computer that interprets that data and uses it to control four pairs of motors, one pair in each instrument, that strike the strings.

CMMAS Project Course in Morelia, Mexico

by admin on April 23, 2012, no comments

This course spent a week in residence, March 14-23, 2014, at the Centro Mexicano para la Música y Artes Sonoras (CMMAS), in Morelia, Mexico. MICA Sound Art faculty members Jason Sloan and Erik Spangler lead workshops in phonography (acoustic ecology and field recording), musique concréte (found-sound audio collage), and group improvisation using graphic scores (visual designs guiding the production of sounds in performance). Audio and video documentation of the local area were incorporated into a collaborative multimedia piece, performed at both CMMAS and MICA. CMMAS staff and artists in residence also presented talks on their work, and on audio technology available for use in the performance.

All workshops, including those by the MICA faculty and by musicians associated with CMMAS, were also attended by local Mexican students who also participated in the collaborative performance with the MICA students in the program.
